Processing technology of nylon elastomer

The processing temperature of nylon elastomer is required to be 10 ~ 30 higher than the melt temperature of the selected resin. The two-phase melt viscosity is close, and it must be consistent with the decomposition temperature of the vulcanizing agent in order to obtain a fine and uniform microstructure and excellent comprehensive performance.

Reasonable control of mixing time. Mixing time affects the degree of rubber intersection, dispersion of rubber particles, and decomposition of the mixture.

In the mixing process, increasing the speed of the screw or rotor helps to strengthen the shearing and mixing effect, promote the damage of the rubber phase, reduce the size of the rubber particles, disperse evenly, and improve the tensile strength and elongation at break of the material. However, a high shear rate will cause the temperature of the material to rise, and the rubber vulcanization speed will be too fast, which is not conducive to the crushing and dispersion of the rubber phase, resulting in the problem of rough microstructure.

The mixing equipment used in dynamic vulcanization technology includes open-line, internal mixer, single-screw extruder, twin-screw extruder, etc. Among them, the smelting machine and the internal mixer can easily control the vulcanization time, and observe the vulcanization process through the torque flow curve, but the productivity is not high. The extruder realizes the industrialized continuous production of elastomer, which is easy to control, but the material residence time is short and the degree of vulcanization of the rubber phase is limited.

Nylon elastomers prepared by dynamic vulcanization include EPDM, nitrile, butyl, and acrylic rubber.

The tensile strength, tear strength and elongation at break of nylon elastomers generally increase with the degree of interconnection of the rubber.

In addition to mechanical properties, the oil resistance and high temperature resistance of nylon elastomers are also related to the degree of vulcanization.
